Dr. Covell is a skilled clinical psychologist with specialty training in forensic psychology. She performs evaluations, and provides consultation services and expert testimony in the areas of: competency, mental state at the time of the offense, sexual deviancy and issues pertaining to mental health disability. In addition to forensic psychological services, Dr. Covell provides comprehensive psychological testing and assessments to address clinical issues, including treatment planning and progress monitoring, diagnosis, and current functioning. Dr. Covell also provides treatment services to individuals with emotional and behavior problems, and specializes in working with individuals who have encountered professional or legal difficulty due to these problems. Finally, Dr. Covell provides training, workshops, and informational seminars on a variety of topics in these areas.
Dr. Covell’s clinical and forensic experience includes working with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (Western State Hospital and Special Commitment Center) and the Department of Corrections. She has worked with institutional administrators, program managers, and community representatives to develop policies and programming regarding sexual offenders. She has provided supervision, training and consultation services to students and professionals in community and institutional settings. Dr. Covell has developed and implemented research programs in applied settings, and presented her findings at professional and academic conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Covell is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Psychology-Law Society (AP-LS), the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA), the Washington Chapter for the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (WATSA) and the International Association for Correctional and Forensic Psychology (IACFP).
